Now that I’m not actually employed, I have more time to sew.  No job is good…more time…and bad…less money.  I picked this pattern up a few years ago and since I wasn’t in the mood to spend any money, I made the decision to Git Er Done.  Granted, I finished it AFTER Halloween this year but it will be brand spankin’ new for next year.

I’m such a dork, I started taking photos of the pieces as I finished them

Piece No. 2

and then I totally forgot to take more.

It will be hiding in the closet until the bewitching begins again in 2014.

The pattern is by “Little Bits” and the finished piece measures 15 1/2 x 18 1/2 inches.

Getting back to sewing reminded me how much I enjoy it; hopefully I will have more completed projects in the near future.

I started cutting the fabrics for the Halloween wallhanging for Wendy.  Holy cow, talk about a pain in my back.  I cut 36 charm squares into 2×5 strips and 2×2 squares.  Then I cut another 18 squares into 2×5 strips.

X-rated charm squaresI still have to cut the background fabric into 85 2″ squares and 13 4″ squares, which then have to be cut into triangles.  I’m making a pattern by Miss Rosie’s Quilt Co. titled “X-rated”.  It can be seen here.  It’s part of the Schnibbles group.  It’s the first one I’ve ever made; then again, it’s the first time I have made anything from a charm pack.

Anyway, my back has had enough cutting for tonight; think I’ll sit at the machine for awhile.

Boo!

Happy Halloween!  This is one of my favorite holidays.  Bill and I have dressed up for the past several years and gone visiting to our friends’ houses.  They were quite saddened this year when I told them I was working.  Boo hoo.  A couple of years we even went dancing and won first place in the costume contest (certainly not in any dancing contest).  Next year…I’ll be RETIRED!  That’s right, not working at the fire department any more.  I visited the retirement office in Augusta earlier this week.  They were able to answer all of my questions and give me an estimate of the monthly amount I will be receiving.  Time will tell whether or not I will still have to work and how often.  It will depend on how much is taken out to cover taxes and insurance.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

On a good note…my friend Su has finally returned home after 10 days in the hospital.  The news about her health was All Good.  I am very thankful that she is home and on the mend.

I was able to get a little more background quilting done on the butterfly wallhanging.  I had a gift certificate from Keepsake Quilting and I spent it on a Halloween pattern and a fabric pack, even though I haven’t finished the wool wallhanging that I started after last Halloween.  It isn’t finished but it’s hung on the wall anyway.
